Start here: Get to know Inaka Journal
“Inaka” is the Japanese word for countryside or rural area.
The Inaka Journal captures rural life on Japan’s Izu Peninsula. It’s a slower pace of life shaped by the seasons, local flavors, and countryside traditions. From blooming flowers to coastal trails, it’s a glimpse into Japan’s rural life throughout the year.

About
In 2025 we bought our home on the Izu Peninsula, 15 minutes away from Atami.
We started Inaka Journal to record how we learn to live with the seasons in rural Japan. Here on the Izu Peninsula, time isn’t marked by urban work and school schedules, rather by countless small shifts in weather, plants, and traditions. Here, we document our day-to-day life, including cooking with seasonal foods, local traditions, countryside living and gardening, and travel in Izu and beyond.
